2024 #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship Application
About the #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship:
The #STMIC Fellowship at New America is focused on providing a platform for under-represented mid-career cybersecurity professionals or those transitioning into the cyber field, and presenting opportunities for professional development to further their careers in the field. It aims to support new independent research and enhancing projects while also providing opportunities for professional development to further Fellows’ careers in cybersecurity.
Who is Eligible to Apply:
Anyone who faces under-representation, systemic bias or discrimination in the cybersecurity profession is encouraged to apply. This includes, but not limited to, professionals who identify as Black and/or person of color, LGBTQIA+, on the gender spectrum, or neurodiverse. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to apply.
This program is designed for mid-career professionals, which are typically individuals who have at minimum 3 years of work experience. Successful applicants will have a track record of working independently, strong writing skills, and demonstrated interested in cybersecurity or issues related to cybersecurity (e.g. data privacy, emerging technology, or workforce training).
The abstract of the project that you provide in your application must be achieved in a nine-month period (by end of September 2024), with the remaining three months reserved for promotion and outreach. New America can provide support to aid in identifying organizations and individuals for outreach, but, as the issue expert, we trust that you will be able to identify the appropriate individuals to call upon as you develop your project.
Fellows must commit to the following::
- Attend the orientation in January 2024 and in-person closing event in October 2024.
- Conduct an independent project cumulating in a work product subject to approval by the Program Manager.
- Engage with the public on their research or a related topic prior to the publication of their work product in October 2024.
- Represent New America in any public writing or speaking relating to their work with their fellowship.
The deadline to apply is September 29, 2023, at 11:59 pm EST. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted, no exceptions.
